The SAB World of Beer team shared its knowledge of the attractions industry with tourism professionals across Africa at the fourth annual Attractions Africa conference at the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, also known as the Pretoria Zoo, this week.
World of Beer general manager Tony Rubin led a roundtable discussion about creating an attractions culture in the workplace, something he believes Disney has been nailing since the original Disneyland Park opened its gates in Anaheim, California, in 1955.
He advised attractions to train their staff as "actors" and encourage them to perform their "scripts" enthusiastically.
"We are all actors and we are on stage. Performance is key in establishing an attractions culture," he said.
The discussion had a strong focus on creating a happy workforce and making staff realise the important role they play within an attraction. "Grumpy staff lead to grumpy visitors," said Tony.
